What is it about old barns that ratchets up our emotions? Here, we see weathered wood and peeling paint in various shades of blue-green and gray, revealing this structure's long history. We even see raw wood – revealed by the power of storms and age. And the strength of metal is there, in the forms of a handle and a latch with a hook, all showing the rust and wear of many years.
We are witness to the dramatic beauty of decay. We see intricate patterns created by the cracked paint and even the worn wood grain. And we imagine that this barn has served its owners well and honorably. So we salute the noble shed.
I made this image during a workshop with @MaineMedia and @sal.taylorkydd on Deer Isle.
