I grew up a city girl. But when I met my husband, our getaway choices invariably were to visit state or national parks via small, windy back roads. Perhaps, in a previous life, I was a mountain girl.
Now, it is my joy to drive along country roads and drink in the sights of wooden fences, stone walls, barns, and hay bales. Oh, the hay bales. Sometimes I feel like I’m in the middle of a painting, like Camilla Pissarro’s “The Hay Harvest.”
So I am exploring using a variety of techniques to create rural scenes that do not actually exist, but live in my imagination thanks to the magic of intentional camera movement and multiple exposure.
“Gateway to the Valley” was selected for Scenic 2022 by Exhibizone, an online visual art exhibition platform based on Ontario, Canada. This exhibit, running from August 1 - August 31, features 174 pieces of art from artists around the world in a wide range of formats, including photography, mixed media, painting, and drawing,
This photograph marries the long, wooden fences that are iconic in the valley with a barn door, also a beloved local symbol. In the background, you can see the gentle mountains hugging the rolling hills. The scene feels to me like a welcome to the Valley embrace.
